Young children will love it if you plant strawberries that bear continually, and organic gardens are the perfect place to do it. Children will be more willing to help you if they can pluck their own fruit from the garden.

You can help to prevent your plants from developing diseases with aspirin water. You will need 2 gallons of water and one and one half aspirin mixed together for a wonderful add-on to your plants. Then spray your plants with this mixture to stave off diseases. The process can be repeated every three weeks or so.

Use equal parts dried and green plant material for your own compost. Green plant material comprises leaves, weeds, spent flowers, grass clippings, and fruit and vegetable waste. You can add dried plants by throwing straw, shredded paper, woody materials and cardboard on your pile. Charcoal, meat, ashes or other diseased plants should not be included in a compost pile.

Consider solving your weed problem without the use of toxic chemicals. Layer sheets of newspaper on the surface of areas where you are trying to control weeds. Weeds must have sunlight in order to grow. By covering them with a layer of newspaper, you are essentially suffocating the weeds due to a lack of light. You can use newspapers because of how nicely they break down, they can be added into compost. You can add mulch on top for aesthetic reasons.

When you plant the seeds in containers, be sure the planting’s depth is three times bigger than the seed. There are exceptions, however. Some types of seeds require more direct sunlight than others, and as such they should not be fully covered. Some of these seeds are petunias and ageratum. When in doubt about whether a seed requires direct sun exposure, you can find lots of information online or on the seed packaging itself.
